We want to explore two key elements to the MyPayrollHR.com services: its payroll software, and its add-ons. Combined, these offer a comprehensive range of tools to cover most small business needs. The payroll software is cloud-based, so you can access your accounts from any machine with an internet connection. There’s no need to install a large program on every device you wish to use, and the interface is intuitive. Even payroll novices should be able to make headways with the software with a little practice.

If you are stuck, there is a contact number, blog and email address for you to get in touch with the team. Online support is a little less in depth, though, and finding the answers you need from the website isn’t always easy because it's spread around rather than contained in a manageable FAQ.

The add-ons cost extra, but MyPayrollHR.com offers its clients a 3 month free trial of add-ons, which is very generous. These add-ons include pre-paid debit cards, time and attendance monitoring systems, paycheck printing and distribution, flexible benefit plans, retirement schemes, workers’ compensation insurance and more. 

We were most interested by the payroll debit cards and the attendance supervisory tools. The cards essentially act as pre-paid debit cards which can be used in stores, to pay bills, or at ATMs. This is particularly useful if an employee is struggling to get a bank account or would simply prefer instant access to their wages.

The time and attendance monitoring tools are web based and integrate with the whole system, allowing a variety of supervisory levels. Employees can request days off or log extra hours worked, meaning that your payroll will be more accurate over all, and you’ll have fewer disgruntled employees who haven’t been paid overtime. This service might be particularly useful to organizations which run complex shift patters, as it means everyone is on the same page and working hours are logged carefully.

The software allows you to request support for your payroll without having to give up control. It’s designed for managers and HR professionals, but is probably suitable for any boss of a small business who has people to pay now and then. We like the easy-use software, which also offers enough complexity for more challenging HR and payroll tasks. Although the website is lacking some important information in an FAQ, there are support options available, and the packages on offer appear to be of use to a range of businesses.
